When you’re out with friends, family or co-workers, it’s hard not to become a social drinker in Seoul. There are plenty of options, but these two are my favorites:

Makgeolli (막걸리)

Dongdongju (동동주)

These are old time traditional drinks. The kind that farm workers in the countryside indulged in during their afternoon breaks. I enjoy the milky, fizzy, easy-to-drink factors. The buzz is mild and pleasant since each drink is a helping of rice. Tips: order dongdongju (동동주) at restaurants because it’s a special blend at each establishment; buy a bottle of makgeolli (막걸리) at the market and keep it in your fridge for nightcaps.
